RE: The tariff classification of a Drum Auger from Taiwan

Dear Ms. Ross:

In your letter dated October 17, 2008 you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The drum auger is used to unclog drains. It is capable of being attached to a power drill (not included). The device consists of a 15 foot spring steel cable that reaches past traps to remove most clogs, a 1/4 inch drill shank, rugged poly housing, and a 4 inch handle with knob for optional manual use.

The applicable subheading for the drum auger will be 8467.99.0190, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Tools for working in the hand, pneumatic, hydraulic or with self-contained electric or nonelectric motor, and parts thereof: Parts: Other…Other. The rate of duty will be Free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
